- Introduction to Agriculture Foods & Natural Resources (AFNR)
Meets A-G Requirement - Grade 9
Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) introduces students to the range of agricultural opportunities and the pathways of study they may pursue. Science, mathematics, reading, and writing components are woven in the context of agriculture and students will use the introductory skills and knowledge developed in this course throughout the CASE™ curriculum. Woven throughout the course are activities to develop and improve employability skills of students through practical applications. Students will explore career and postsecondary opportunities in each area of the course. Students participating in the Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources course will experience hands-on activities, projects, and problems. Student experiences will involve the study of communication, the science of agriculture, plants, animals, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics. While surveying the opportunities available in agriculture and natural resources, students will learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in teams, and take responsibility for their work, actions, and learning. For example, students will work in groups to determine the efficiency and environmental impacts of fuel sources in a practical learning exercise.
- Introduction to Animal Science (Principal of Agriscience- Animal)
Meets College Preparatory A-G Requirements - Grade 9, 10, 11 & 12
Foundation-level course designed to engage students in hands-on laboratories and activities to explore the world of animal agriculture. Throughout the course, students will develop a comprehensive Producer’s Management Guide for an animal of their choice.Student experiences will involve the study of animal anatomy, physiology, behavior, nutrition, reproduction, health, selection, and marketing. For example, students will acquire skills in meeting the nutritional needs of animals while developing balanced, economical rations. Throughout the course, students will consider the perceptions and preferences of individuals within local, regional, and world markets. Co-Requisite- AFNR
- Animal Anatomy & Physiology
Meets College Preparatory A-G Requirements- Grade 11 & 12
Animal Anatomy and Physiology is a course designed to provide students an applied scientific study in the area of animals and veterinary care. This course focuses on the application of animal anatomical and physiological knowledge to the maintenance and improvement of animal health to include; clinical diagnosis of disease and parasites, administration of medications, and common surgical procedures. Biological applications will include studies in cells, genetics, evolution, and ecology as they pertain to the animal/veterinary field. The feline dissection and various other livestock specimens will serve as a supplemental lab practicum throughout the duration of this course. Each unit includes a clinical practice component at the conclusion to put the knowledge learned into a real veterinary clinical situation. Additional emphasis will be placed on industry practices to include office procedures, public relations and communications, laboratory skills. Students will have the skills for entry level veterinary positions. Prerequisite- AFNR, Principles of Agriscience-Animal
